Előd, Kostyák - Cello

Cluj (languages: Hungarian, Romanian, English, French)

Born in Cluj, he started his musical studies in his hometown and continued in Bucharest. He attained his degree with honours at Gheorghe Dima Music Academy, Cluj. In 1990 he participated in masterclasses led by Miklós Perényi in Szombathely and Csaba Onczay  in Keszthely. As a member of Bartha String Quartet in 1994 he won the Wilhelm Georg Berger String Quartet Competition in Brasov and the DIMA International Music Competition in Cluj. In 1994-95 he  participated in a 6 months musical masterclass led by Sándor Devich at Liszt Academy in Budapest. From 1994 till 2008 he was principal cello player in celebrated orchestras like Honvedart (Honvéd Együttes), Győr Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Transsylvanica Budapest and Miskolc National Theater. During 1998-2007 he was a member of M.É.Z., which is a renowned Hungarian music group playing Irish and Scottish folk music. From 2009 till 2015 he was soloist cello player of the Nation Opera Bucharest. Since 2008 he has been soloist cello player of Hungarian Opera of Cluj.
He is honored to play the cello of Sámuel Brassai, which is the property of the Episcopate of the Unitarian Church of Hungary. This unique musical instrument is a masterpiece of Christian Neubauer, made in 1835 in Buda; renovated upon the request of Asociaţia Amaryllis Cluj in 2008. The renovation was done by noted János Márkus Barbarossa, Hungarian poet, musical instrument dealer, antiquarian and renovator.
